Despite violence and armed confrontations in the country, the Somali handball federation successfully concluded the country The Somali police-owned team Heegan defeated its Mogadishu port rivals by 31-29 in the final match over the weekend. The final match attracted the biggest number of handball fans yet to be seen at a Somali stadium for the past three years. At the end of the tournament a small ceremony intended to mark on the conclusion of the Somali handball division one competition was held at the stadium, where cups, cash and other rewards were paid. The president of Somali handball federation Mohamed Hurshe Hassan who addressed at the ceremony said that rather than keeping handball alive in Somalia his federation had another importance in holding the tournament which he said was to protect young boys from falling into crimes.
