A meeting which intended to draw the Somali National Olympic committee work plans for 2012-2014 was concluded in Dubai with good decisions taken there according to the Somali NOC senior Vice president for international relations Duran Ahmed Farah.
Talking to reporters in Mogadishu on Saturday Mr. Farah said that the Somali National Olympic committee organized meeting attracted officials from Somali sports ministry and outsider Somali experts who gave lucrative consultations on how to develop Somali sports and use it as a tool to create peace and public integrations in the war-weary country.
He said that the meeting had four strategy priorities including:
1- The enhancement of the development of administration and techniques of Somali NOC member federations and sporting associations.
2- To make full preparations for the participation of the 2012 London Olympic games
3- To start the Somali sports development from grassroots level and in particular to establish special and sophisticated sports programs at schools across the country.
4- To draw the attention of Somali business community to sport so that they can play their role in the promotion of sport in Somalia.
“My particular thanks are due to the experts who came to contribute their constructive ideas and gave more important consultations on how Somali sport can step into a higher development despite difficulties in the country” the Somali NOC senior vice president for international relations Duran Ahmed Farah said during his press conference in Mogadishu Saturday.
Somali deputy sports Minister Dahri Hajji Guelleh who took part in the Dubai meeting praised the Somali National Olympic committee for its efforts to protect sport in the lawless country from destruction for the past 21 years of lack of a functioning central government in the country.
Secretary General Abdullahi Ahmed Tarabi outlined Somali NOC’s 2011 action plan, what was achieved, what was not achieved and if there were challenges that faced them during the year.
“In 2011, we have successfully accomplished our work plans by 50%, while 25% is still under way and the rest was postponed to the 2012, because of some challenges we faced” the Somali National Olympic committee secretary General Abdullaahi Ahmed Tarabi told the meeting.

The 3-day meeting was the largest ever congregation of its kind to discus on ways to develop Somali sports.
