The Level 1 Canoeing Technical Course for Somalia Caoeing atheltes , started in Kenyan City of Mombasa on 12th June and will continue until 21st June, the Course organized through the support of International Canoe Federation (ICF) and Confederation of African Canoeing(CAC) and Kenya Rowing and Cnaoe Association (KRACA, was the 1st Technical Canoeing course organized mainly for Somalia atheltes in disapora and was aimed at involving Somali youths in the sport of Canoeing though the Somali Canoe federation and to help develop Canoeing and Sports structures
in Somalia in future . 6 Somali youths(3 men and 3 women) were indentified by the Somalia Canoe Federation and another 6 Kenyan youths from several Kenyan Canoe clubs also joined the course.ICF appointed Lecturer and Instructor Mr Seif Patwa from Kenya who is also the Secretary Gen CAC is conducting the course , assisted by Kenyan Coach Joseph Ngugi . Mr Patwa has previously conducted and introduced canoeing in several Africa countries of Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Uganda , etc . This course will cover several topics such as Canoeing and Olympic History , Rules, Energy systems, Physiology, Coaching methodology, Pedagogy, Training theory and practical sessions, Anti doping , Fitness and Stretching , Sports injury , Strenght training and Practical boat maitenance.As part of the Course , Boat Maitenannce Worshops has been included to improve the knowlegde and expertise in Maintanance of equipment this is being and supported by Tudor Water Sports Marina of Mombasa.Funding challenges , prevented more youths from joining this course , however, the Confederation of African Canoeing (CAC) is fully enaged in planning and supporting more African Countries in training and donation of equiment to further develop the Sports of canoeing in Africa , at presented more than 30 Africa Countries are affiliated to CAC and ICF.
CAC has also applied and is awaiting official response from ANOCA to organize a joint Continenetal Canoeing Youth Training Camp in 2012/2013 to enable youths to improve canoeing performance .
