The governing body of sports in Somalia has welcomed the remarkable selection of the members of Somali Parliament and Monday’s first presidential election in the country for over twenty years in which new President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was elected.

As one of the major Somali society organizations Somali Olympic Committee would like to congratulate the new president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who himself has worked for various civil society organizations before engaging the political process for his outstanding win. SNOC would also like to congratulate the members of Somali Parliament for completing this crucial political process and electing a president that has been received enormously by the people.

Sports brings people from different ideology and backgrounds together and can play a big role for building peace in our country and therefore Somali Olympic Committee would urge the new president to consider sports as a major contributor to these factors and to give a chance for Somali sports community especially the youth to contribute improving stability and security as well as being a major force for development and reconciliation process of the country.
