The journalist who was one of the founding members of Somali Sports Press Association was one of the very few veteran journalists who remained in the country for the past 20 years. At least 19 journalists have been killed in Somalia since January this year.

“For more than two months we don’t know the whereabouts of Abdullahi Hilowle Mohamed after hereceived death threats from Al- Shabaab militants several times–the latest threats came to him through a phone call from Jibril Nur Yusuf one the men in charge of Al-shabaab for killing journalists” SSPA presidential statement said Tuesday.

On September 1stthis year the Al-Qaeda-proxy militants who are the main killers of journalists in Somalia termed the Somali Sports press Association as writers of ‘evil’. One of the group’s top leaders Sheik Fuad Mohamed Shangole said that that what he called journalists who write ‘Unislamic news’ which he meant sports stories will be dealt with in accordance with Islam that means will be killed.

However the fate of SSPA journalist Abdullahi Hilowle Mohamed still remains unknown, but the SSPA with the help of members from his family is trying to collect information on his whereabouts.
