The sudden death of the newly elected vice president of Somali Olympic Committee Hassan Abdi Ahmed (Elman) sent shock waves among Somali Olympic Family as they were continuing receiving good-wishing messages for their election and new administration. President of Somali Olympic Committee Abdullahi Tarabi, Secratery general Duran Farah, other vice presidents and all members have sent their condolence messages to the family and expressed their shock and sadness at the loss of their colleague, friend and vice president who has passed away after few hours of illness. "I am deeply shocked to learn the sudden death of the vice president who has been out working with Somali Basketball Federation yesterday for the travel arrangements of players and delegates participating for Zone V Tournament in Tanzania. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this difficult time and we ask Allah to rest him in peace" said the secretary general Duran Farah who declared the news to the media. Mr Ahmed will be remembered for his role of re-establishment of sports activities during the civil war, supporting and encouraging youth and sports community within Mogadishu to destroy the separation of the city and organising tournaments to let Mogadishu residents disregard their political differences and unite through sports. Mr Ahmed who has survived from the injuries he sustained at the explosion that killed the former president of Somali Olympic Committee and the chief of Somali Football Federation in April, last year is expected to be buried on Wednesday according to Muslim rites in Mogadishu.
