The recently elected executive members of Somali national Olympic committee met the deputy minister of Social Development Ministry which administers the sports issues for Somali government to discuss the best way forward to co-operate, promote and develop sports within the country. The meeting chaired by the deputy minister and former international basketball and football referee Bashir Jama and attended by both the general and sports secretaries of the ministry, president and general secretary of SNOC and all members of the executive committee was discussed in how to eradicate the barriers stuck between the parties and to establish a lasting working relationship among not only the two sides but all sporting loving community in the country.
The president of Somali National Olympic Committee who addressed the meeting show gratitude to the deputy minister and his staff for taking the initiative and arranging such an important meeting which he considers a remarkable step forward to eradicate the misunderstanding between the ministry of sports and other national sports organizations in general and SNOC in particular.
"I would like to thank you for having us here in the ministry and looking forward to work with you and your colleagues at the ministry in the future. This is a significant start for both of us who are new in their offices and will send a positive indication for Somali youth and children who are eager to enjoy a proper improvement in sports within the country". Said the former national basketball coach and SNOC president Abdullahi Tarabi
Deputy minister Bashir Mohamed Jama who has enjoyed his long sporting career ranging from a player to a well known Basketball and Football international referee has emphasized the importance of putting all differences and uncertainties aside and working together as sports leaders and policy makers.
"The minister of the Social Development ministry, me and all the ministry team are interested to establish a close relationship with you and as an experienced sports individual I believe that is the only way forward to develop and create a better society. I hope this is the beginning of that relationships and wishing you all the success in the future" said the deputy minister who advised to the parties to work together and produce a high-quality athletes that can represent the country in the future.
This is the first meeting between the ministry of Sports and the governing body of Somali sports since the historic election of Somali Olympic Committee in Mogadishu at the beginning of this month.
