Bangkok; 05 November 2014: ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah today confirmed the ANOC Executive Council's unanimous support for the recommendations put forward by the IOC for Olympic Agenda 2020 following the ANOC Executive Council meeting in Bangkok.
IOC President Thomas Bach attended the ANOC Executive Council meeting to give an update on Olympic Agenda 2020 following the meeting of the IOC Executive Board in Lausanne at the end of October.
ANOC remains fully committed to Olympic Agenda 2020 having urged all 204 NOCs to contribute to the discussions before presenting a consolidated document to the IOC earlier this year. Amongst the other major items discussed by the ANOC Executive Council were the reports of the nine ANOC Commissions and Working Groups which will be presented at the largest ever ANOC General Assembly in two days’ time.
Also set to be proposed to the General Assembly is a new article in the ANOC Constitution requiring each Continental Association to elect at least one female among their representatives on the ANOC Executive Council. Speaking after the meeting, ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said: "We were grateful to receive an update on Olympic Agenda 2020 from IOC President Thomas Bach. We unanimously support all the recommendations made by the IOC Executive Board last week in Lausanne.
The Olympic Agenda 2020 will shape the future development of the Olympic Movement and we have every confidence that under President Bach’s leadership these recommendations will benefit not just the NOCs, but all Olympic stakeholders.”"At ANOC we are currently undergoing our own process of self-analysis and evaluation. Our nine ANOC Commissions and Working Groups will present their action plans to the ANOC General Assembly on Friday.
These plans will play an integral part in ensuring that ANOC continues to improve the support it offers all 204 of its NOCs. Our function is to empower the NOCs so they can adapt and contribute to this new Olympic Movement under the leadership of President Bach and Olympic Agenda 2020.”
