The president of Somali Football Federation, Abdiqani Said Arab, has today Saturday 2ndof December been re-elected as CECAFA executive committee member for the sixth consecutive term.
Eight candidates from across the CECAFA region competed for five seats of the CECAFA executive committee. The elected five executive committee members are: Abdiqani Said Arab (Somalia) Wallace karia (Tanzania), Aimable Habimana (Burundi), Ms Doris Petra (Kenya) and juneidi Tilmo (Ethiopia), while Moses Magogo of Uganda, Kourecha Ali Guedi of Djibouti and Vincent Nzamwita of Rwanda withdrew from the election contest.
The elected CECAFA members will serve for a four year- term in accordance with the newly amended CECFA constitution, while previously the mandate of executive committee members was only two years.
"The amendment of the statues was unanimously adopted by CECAFA member states at our meeting in Khartoum on 30thof September this year” said Abdiqani Said Arab, who is also CECAFA vice chairman.
Meanwhile, Somali government has congratulated Mr. Arab for retaining his CECAFA executive committee seat for the sixth term. "On behalf of the federal government of Somalia and on my behalf, I congratulate Somali FA president, Abdiqani Sadi Arab on his re-election as CECAFA Exco member. This is another successful moment for the entire Somalia” the minister Honorable Khadija Mohamed Diriye Said in a Statement.
"Somalia is going ahead and is recovering from years of lawlessness. In my capacity as a minister, I announce that the ministry is committed to promoting the country’s sport n general and soon Somalia will make a full comeback” Honorable minister, Khadija Mohamed Diriye, said in a statement on Saturday.
