The 13th election congress of Africa National Olympic committees association (ANOCA) which continued from 6 to 7 July has been concluded in the Nigerian city of Abuja, as Somali NOC was represented at the meeting by its first vice president of international relations Duran Ahmed Farah. President of ANOCA Gen Lassana Balenfo who opened the congress has welcomed IOC president Jacque Roge to the plat form to deliver his precious message.
National Olympic committees from 51 African countries attended the meeting while two nations Madagascar and Cape Verde did not participate in the meeting.
Representatives from the hosting cities of the upcoming world Olympic Games and youth Olympic Games London and Singapore who addressed at the congress gave details about their preparations.
The cities of Chicago Bulls, Madrid, Rio Deginero and Tokyo which are all running for hosting the 2016 international Olympic Games presented their advertisements to try to attract the eyes of ANOCA members in search of vote of confidence.
President of United States Brack Obama who sent special audio tape to the ANOCA congress asked African National Olympic committees to vote for Chicago to host the 2016 International Olympic Games, while former Argentinean football star Pele asked Africans to support his city Rio Deginero.
Current ANOCA President General Balenfo of Ivory Coast defeated his Cameroonian rival candidate Colnel Kalkaba by 35-15 votes and one vote went wrong.
Mustafa Berraf of Algeria and Moussa Aggrey of Chad run for the post of fist vice presidency and Mr. Berraf beat his rival by 28-21 votes, while Khaled Zein Din of Egypt was elected as ANOCA Genera Secretary.
Somali NOC first vice president of international relations Duran Ahmed Farah who was representing Somalia at the meeting has held miscellaneous talks with dignitaries from some international sporting organization including Olympic Solidarity, Olympic Africa and Singapore YOG giving them full details about Somali sport, the successes approached by Somali NOC and the huge task ahead the national Olympic committee of Somalia which is operating in a lawless country that has been experiencing anarchy and one of the bloodiest armed confrontations in the word for the last two decades.
